Electroconvulsive therapy for Depression in Anorexia Nervosa. A review

Introduction Anorexia nervosa has an important burden on both patients and families, with comorbidities such as depression obsessive symptoms. These are more resistant to pharmacological treatment than in non-anorexia patients, due biological psychological mechanisms. Electroconvulsive therapy is the best available for making it a consider anorexia though only case reports exist. Objectives To review current evidence electroconvulsive of well it’s ethical challenges Methods Non-systematic literature selection scientific articles published past 10 years; by searching Pubmed Medscape databases using combination MeSH descriptors. The following terms were used: “electroconvulsive therapy”, “anorexia nervosa”. Results no controlled trials mostly databases. It presents patient age, medical status challenges. Even less exist children adolescents adults, can complicate presenting anesthetic life-support challenge egosyntonicity place legal when refuses treatment.
